Throttle pickup timing (when the cam hits the roller) should be approximatly 4 deg ATDC. To adjsut the pickup timing change the lenghth of the rod by loosening the locknut and turning the knurled nut.Tighten the screw securely to hold the adjustment. Mount the engine in a test tank, or move the boat into a body of water. Never use a flush device while making the primary pick-up adjustments. Connect a timing light to the No. 1 (top) spark plug lead. Start the powerhead and allow it to warm to operating temperature. The pointer is called a timing fixture but it is really a tool to adjust the ignition to fire as close as possible to 180 degrees apart.
